Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the MotWise app (package com.motwise.app) and this website collect, why, who handles it, and the choices you have. MotWise is a language-learning app built around the MotWise Learn French podcast. Contact: hello@motwiseapp.com.

Summary

• You can use the app as a guest, without an email address or a password.
• We store your learning progress so it survives reinstalling and moves between your devices once you create an account.
• We do not sell your data. We do not run our own analytics or tracking inside the app.
• Free users see ads served by Google AdMob. Subscribers do not.
• You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.

What we collect

Account information

If you sign up, we store your email address and a password hash, handled by our authentication provider. If you use the app as a guest, we create an anonymous account with a random ID and no personal details.

Learning data

Linked to your account (guest or registered):

• Episodes you have completed, quiz counts and scores, and total listening time.
• Your streak, last activity date, daily goal and selected level.
• Words you save, with their translation, example sentence, and how well you know each one.
• Episodes you mark as favorites.

Feedback you send

If you report a bug or rate an episode, we store what you submit: your message (up to 1,000 characters), the type of report, and technical context that helps us reproduce a problem: app version, platform, operating system version, and the screen you were on.

Purchase information

Subscriptions are sold by Google Play. Our subscription provider, RevenueCat, receives a purchase identifier and your subscription status so the app knows whether premium features are unlocked. We never see your payment card details.

Advertising data

Free users see ads from Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device information such as your advertising ID, IP address and ad interactions to serve and measure ads. We do not receive that data. See how Google uses data in advertising. You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalization in your Android settings.

Server logs

When the app downloads episode audio and lesson files, the servers that deliver them (Cloudflare) see your IP address and request details, as any web server does. We do not use this to identify you.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone recordings or files. The app does not contain third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.

Why we use it

• To run the app: show your progress, keep your saved words, and sync between devices.
• To provide premium features you paid for.
• To fix bugs and improve lessons, using the feedback you send.
• To show ads to free users, which pays for the free version.
• To prevent abuse and keep the service secure.

Who processes your data

We use these services to operate MotWise. Each handles data only to provide its service to us.

• Supabase: authentication and the database that stores your account and learning data.
• Resend: sends account emails such as sign-up confirmation.
• Cloudflare: delivers episode audio and lesson content, and hosts this website.
• RevenueCat: manages subscriptions and entitlements.
• Google Play: sells and bills subscriptions.
• Google AdMob: serves ads to free users.

These providers may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. We do not sell your personal data or share it for any other purpose.

How long we keep it

• Registered accounts: until you delete the account.
• Guest accounts: deleted automatically after 30 days of inactivity, together with their progress and saved words.
• Feedback: deleted with the account that sent it.

Deleting your data

In the app, open Profile, choose Delete Account and type DELETE to confirm. This permanently removes your account, progress, saved words, favorites and feedback from our systems. It cannot be undone. Details, including how to ask us to do it for you, are on the account deletion page.

Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Cancel it in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email hello@motwiseapp.com from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

MotWise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access rules that let each account read and change only its own data. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

This website

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
